Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U update will allow region free online

If you think region locking the system was bad enough, Capcom went ahead and took it a steep further by region locking Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U's online mode. Thankfully heads have turned (most likely due to criticism) and an update will be released which should finally allow US/EU(which includes Arab region) compete with each other.
To make the deal sweeter, the update will also players to switch the game to their gamepad, a feature I think all Wii U games should adopt in some form.
And free DLC from time to time. YAY!
The only main gripe I have with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is the lack of a proper online mode for the 3DS version. In order to actually play online players will need use the Wii U's wifi mode. Honestly, I would only play this game online meaning the Wii U version is the only one way to go for me. Hopefully Monster Hunter 4 would finally give players freedom to play online wherever they go...or at least wherever there's a WiFi spot.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate U is expected to come out March 19 for the Wii U and 3DS.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PS3) Review

Ever since the first Metal Gear Solid, gamers have long dreamt of the day they get to control a cyborg ninja. That one scene where Grey Fox chops and mutilates his foes in that tight corridor is one of the most memorable scenes in the entire franchise. “I want to be that ninja!” many of us expressed. Well after years of waiting Metal Gear Rising has come to deliver us that dream.

This is Raiden’s Story

Raiden introduction wasn’t really the best . Thanks to MGS 2, many where put off by this Solid Snake replacement that, instead of being the muscular hero we’re used to, ended up a being feminine esque green boy who had constant relationship issues with his girlfriend. After numerous fan complaints he received a massive makeover and was reintroduced in MGS 4 as a cyborg ninja. It wasn’t until his famous battle with Vamp that truly made him a recognizable character in the MGS universe.

The game takes place four years after MGS 4. Raiden now works for a PMC (Private Military Corporation) called Mavrick that fights to keep the peace. His other motive is also money which he hopes to raise for his family. With the SOP (Sons of the Patriots) system collapsed multiple PMC’s have begun struggling to gain a profit. Desperado, being one of them, has begun trafficking children to salvage their brains and train them as cyborg soldiers. Raiden, who has crossed paths of Desperado and failed to protect someone, has decided to go down the path of vengeance and stop this menacing group once and for all. The plot does a good job bringing Raiden into the spotlight and really touches upon his dark past as a child soldier. The main issue I have with it is the amount of knowledge it requires. A huge chunk of the dialog consists of acronyms that would only make sense to those are familiar with the backstory of MGS 4. I was also surprised there wasn’t a summary or intro that at least tried recount the events of the previous entries. Not even the game’s manual (PAL version) managed to elaborate on its backstory. Because of this many new comers won’t know what’s going and would just simply stop caring.

I wonder how many people will actually understand her choice of wardrobe
While Raiden is more fleshed out in this game, the others tend to fall short of the mark. That’s not say they aren’t charming. Characters like Doktor and wolf certainly have their moments while the villains, except for Jetstream Sam, barely qualify as people. That’s sort of disappointing considering how Metal Gear villains used to be considered more than just boss fights. The dialogue on the other hand is pretty amusing. The characters never end up taking themselves too seriously (or maybe too seriously) and conversations don’t get dull. Those of you who have played Platinum Game titles such as Bayonetta will notice the resemblance. The cutscenes also don’t drag as long as your typical Metal Gear Solid game but those that do are pretty interesting to watch especially when all the Advent Children action starts happening.

I'll also save you all the trouble by mentioning that Solid Snake does NOT make an appearance in this game whatsoever. As far as Easter eggs are considered I haven't even discovered a mentioning of him. This is probably because developers (again) wanted to make it pretty clear that this was Raiden's story.

Cut at will

MGR’s main attraction has to be its gameplay. While at first glance you might think this is Ninja Gaiden in the future you quickly begin to realize that’s not the case. MGR combat is all centered on its concept “cut at will” which gives players the liberty of cutting their target anyway they please. Whether if its cars, walls, helicopters, people, Metal Gears--the game just lets you go all out.  You also get rewarded for slicing the enemy in the right direction. Doing so will allow Raiden to grab the enemy’s spine or battery which is then consumed for health and power. It is possibly one of the most satisfying things I have ever done in a videogame and can never get enough it. There is of course a limit to how much you can cut in the game world (otherwise you will find Raiden falling into an endless abyss of a hole he cut through the ground). Enemies come in your typical fashion ranging from weak to the heavy hard hitting mechs. The boss fights definitely steal the show as they involve strategy and satisfying finishers. Boss fight also rewards you with different weapons each with its own unique style. The physics, while amusing, do lack some quality. Certain objects don’t appear to have their proper weight and you would occasionally find Raiden randomly jumping up and down objects (such as a broken fence) which ends breaking the immersion.

My biggest complaint with the gameplay has to be the camera. It tends to go haywire when things get messy; the lack of a proper block or dodge button doesn’t help either. Instead of pushing down a single button players will have to use a combination buttons (attack + analog stick or attack + jump) to block and dodge respectably. This wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t using the same button as attack. As a result players will have time to time the right moment of letting go of the attack and then pushing it again with the analog stick at the right time. It can make fights feel incredibly frustrating and annoying.

Another aspect that lacks quality has to be the game’s visuals. A lot of the textures, such as the ground or tarmac, look really low res. And while it does have a grainy filter, in this case it only ends up hurting it even further. However credit has to be given to the cyborg armors which look very sleek and sexy. The game does run on 60 FPS which probably justifies the dip in graphics.

The soundtrack is also very engaging with its heavy metal/alternative rock that hits the high notes at specific times. For example, when fighting Metal Gear Ray (the first boss fight) the music will slowly start building up until reaching the climax of the battle where you begin hearing the lyrics. It’s freaking awesome and I wish more devs took note of this feature.

A spin-off done right

Let’s make one thing clear. Metal Gear Rising is not Metal Gear Solid. The game is a spin off based on Raiden or Jack who was the main protagonist from Metal Gear Solid 2. While in MGS 2 he played as a stealth operative in this game he takes the role of a cyborg ninja who not only possess ninja skills but weapons as well with swords and everything. The only difference from a normal ninja is that he is part machine which augments his body to do inhumane things such as running on walls and taking ridiculous damage. This is where the spin off thing comes in to play. Because Raiden is super human he wouldn’t need to focus on sneaking around as much and can take on multiple enemies head on. Granted there are some stealth segments here and there but the game doesn’t force you to take that approach. I personally found it more fun to be spotted by enemies then to hide in a barrel. This of course is a complete opposite of what MGS players are used to which was, above all else, a stealth game.

However it’s because MGR went full out action is the reason why it stands out so much.  Sure it’s a bit rough around the edges. but those complaints are a far cry and shouldn't hamper Metal Gear Rising’s footing. Above all else it manages to give a breath of fresh of air in the Metal Gear universe which is bound to invite new and old comers alike. The only question I want to ask is "when's the sequel?"

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix Confirmed for NA. Final Mix included!

Sora and company will once grace the Playstation this time in HD; in English! While we've known for a while it was coming out in Japan, 1.5 HD remix has finally been confirmed for NA by Square Enix themselves.

The 1.5 HD collection coming out this fall will include:
  • Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
  • Re: Chains of Memories
  • 358/2 movie that summarizes the event of game
Notice something different? That's right. For the first time Final Mix will be in English. The Final Mix version, which have been Japan exclusives, include extra boss fights, weapons, and cut scenes (such as Deep Dive).
Not only do you get these classic titles in breathtaking HD, but the original KINGDOM HEARTS is enhanced with KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX previously only available in Japan. This new edition comes complete with additional weapons, enemies, skills, scenes and more!
HD collection will also feature various gameplay tweaks such as controling the camera with the right analog stick. Sadly, Xbox users will have to miss out as this collection is coming exclusive to the Playstation 3.

My guess is Square wants everyone to catch up on the story until KH 3 finally comes out.  I'm also assuming The inevitable 2.5 HD remix will include KH 2: Final Mix, Birth By Sleep HD (Yes, please), and Dreep Drop Distance HD or Re: Coded movie. Whatever it is, Square better hurry up!

PS4 games will cost the same as PS3 games

With every new console generation there is bound to be leap in quality which brings the assumption that it will cost more. We've seen this happen when PS3 games jumped ten dollars more than PS2; going from 50 to 60 USD. So would PS4 games cost 70 dollars? If you came in here reading the title then you already know the answer to that question.

In an interview with Sony's CEO, CNBC has confirmed that PS4 games will not cost more than 60 dollars (which is already the standard market price for PS3 games in the US region).
On pricing, Tretton said that the PS4 is "designed with the game developer in mind and the consumer in mind," and will offer games with prices ranging from $0.99 to the more traditional $60 range with the ability for players to sample games before they buy.
Well that's a relief  I would hate to think of paying more money for games that otherwise cost less if they were on PC, but then again I don't think this gen is about raising the price but more about generating a wider  audience. However, seeing all this season pass trend at foot, you can bet anything that developers will find ways to squeeze more HP out of our wallets.

I'm more concerned about how the Arab game retail game market would react to this. When the Wii U first came out it costed around 800 USD and games retailed around 80 USD. Although it went down dramatically since then (probably because it's Nintendo console which isn't popular in the region), I can still sense that these retail shops will no doubt strike a profit on the Sony fanboy market--which happens to be really big here. I guess we'll find out when the PS4 launches this holiday season (Q4).

Jimmy Fallon Gives us a closer look at Killzone: Shadowfall and The PS4 Controller

Jimmy Fallon is no stranger to videogames; so when Sony unveiled its PS4 it was only a matter of time until he got to show it off on his late show. Unsrprisingly, the PS4 console itself was still now shown.

While the console itself is still MIA, we did manage to see its controller, the Dualshock 4, in better light. Cllose ups of the side triggers, pads, and speaker (which I didn't realize until now) were shown in more detail. The peaker will work similar to the Wii by transmitting game audio and in Kilzzone's case it will let us hear radio transmission from your squad members.  I'm honestly not a big fan of the new design but after watching the clip I felt more willing to give it a second chance. As for the Killzone: Shadowfall footage, well, it's pretty much what we've already seen at the the Feb 20 show except this time we see some noob power in action! At least I hope it's noob power and not some terrible control design at work.

10 games we will or will not (probably) see at the PS4 debut

Sony latest beast is right around around the corner and while many of us have been gawking and day dreaming about its design andspecs we shouldn't forget why we want in the first place—videogames! Like, c’mon, it’s called video-games not video-consoles, get with program. If Sony really wants people to jump on board it’s going to have to show some impressive pieces of software. So to get in the spirit, here my thoughts on ten games Sony will or will not (probably) show at its PS4 debut.

10. Watch Dogs

This was without a doubt one of biggest ground breakers of E3 2012. Stellar visuals, a dark near future setting, interactive environment that involves hacking—all of it screams "I want to play it now." Something that’s hard to believe out of all this was the announcement of a PS3 version. What?! A lot of people found it hard to belief the E3 demo was running on a current gen system. I mean did you see it? With next gen systems on the horizon, it only seems logical to have a PS4 port.

Possibility of showing: Hack on your PS4 controller (Yes)

9.  Star Wars 1313

Another E3 2012 demo that wowed us; Star Wars 1313  next gen visuals truly set the bar high. The reason why I say next gen is because it is. The developer’s practically confirmed that the tech demo was running on super high end PC that would otherwise translate to a next gen system such as a PS4.

Possibility of showing: the force is strong with this one (Yes)

8. Metal Gear Solid 5

Snake made his big return at PAX 2012 with Metal Gear Ground Zeroes. Kojima confirmed it to be a prologue to MGS 5 and will arrive on the PS3. Get where I’m going with this? Just like MGS 4, Sony hopes that Kojima’s next big MGS will be the incentive gamers need to get one on launch day. BUT will it be announced at today’s press conference? Kojima is currently touring the world for the launch of Metal Gear Rising and there’s no way Sony would announce it without him being there.

Possibility of showing: “I gotta keep 'em waiting, huh?” (No)

7. Battlefield 4

While we have seen nothing of this game yet, we do know it’s happening. In fact, someone today ( which, surprise! happens to be the same day as the PS4 debut) has seen Battlefied 4 in action.
Looks pretty legit, right?

Let’s also keep in mind that last year we didn't see any new BF games. The PS4 is arriving in November and with Battlefield 4 launching probably around the same time, it seems like it would be a match made in gun heaven.

Possibility: Reporting in, sir! (Yes)

6. A new (GOOD) Crash Bandicoot game

Sony has recently been taking us back down memory lane with its videos and Tweets. Games such as Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Dax, were showed multiple times and let’s be honest, both games need revivals. But if one had to choose, it would definitely be the furry peach eating hipster. Fans have been yearning for a comeback to the Crash series and what better way than to show him off than on Sony’s new machine. Then again Naughty Dog or Sony doesn't own Crash anymore and I honestly wouldn't don't know if I can take another crappy title from Activision

Possibility: Ugh, my head is spinning (Not sure)

5. Kingdom Hearts 3

Oh, Square. Why do you keep holding us back? Afraid it might turn into another Versus? Fair enough. Spin-off after spin-off, fans has been led on a wild goose chase.“It’s coming after this one!" we all thought but just like those nasty Naruto fillers we never got to see KH3. Officially, the game director is keeping a tight lip about it but we all know it’s happening. With the HD ports coming soon it would only make sense (from Square’s point of view) to announce the game.

Possibility: Feb 20th, got it memorized? (Yes)

4. The Last Guardian

Oh, God. Every time I hear about this I get depressed. Facing development hell and constantly ditching shows, many have assumed the game has become vapor ware. Not true, says the game director, who has constantly denied the game cancellation and always stated that it’s being worked on. So where is it? Well the most reasonable explanation would be that it’s being ported to the PS4. This would explain its hiatus.

Possibility: Giant flying rat, here I come! (Yes..hopefully)

3. Final Fantasy versus 13 reborn as Final Fantasy 15

The talk of the town is Final Fantasy 15 not versus. That’s how confident gamers are with this rumor. This wouldn't be the first time Square has changed its name. Agito 13 was switched to Type-0 and with game’s director announcing they will be using its next gen Luminos engine on it, all you have to do is connect the dots. I mean it only makes sense to drop the versus 13. FF13 is 3 years old game and versus? What is this, a fighting game? It confuses the market so it only makes sense to change the name. On the other hand, Square has been known to do things that don’t make sense like making two sequels to a game that not many people liked…

Possibility: It better happen or else! (Yes or else!)

2. Final Fantasy 7 remake

Another Square title? This one is special though; in the sense that it’s been wanted for a very very long time. Ever since the infamous FF7 PS3 tech demo, gamers have been waiting for the announcement of an HD remake. Square on the other hand has denied that it’s coming. Oh, seriously? If you really didn't want people to ask for it then why tease us? Geez. They know they started a fire they can’t put off. But what about Sony? Let’s remember that FF7 was THE game that made everyone want a PSOne from both the east and west. If Sony ponies up the dough then Square would probably feel more inclined to listen. But like I said before: they tend to do things that simply DON'T MAKE SENSE.

Possibility: SEPHIROTH! (No)

1. Something that will wow us but will ultimately not live up to our expectations

Killzone 2, Move, 3D, Playstation Home, Life, Six Axes, Eye, Sony has a nasty habit of announcing these…things. On paper they sound really interesting, and probably innovative, but once the final product arrives it ends up not capturing our imagination and only ends up, well, sucking. This WILL happen again and sadly no one can stop them.

Possibility: 599 dollars! (Yes, sadly )

Those were my two cents. For all we know Sony may announce the system with a very short lineup, but hey, at least we can all dream a bit until reality hits us in the face.

Bungie's Destiny will be hitting stores on October 6, 2013

Numerous sources around the net have begun leaking info about Bungie's next big project--Destiny. According to this pre-order poster found on Joystiq, the mystery sci-fi title will be an "FPS with cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, combined with public and social activities". Cool. Gamers will also be able to pre-order their copies starting this Monday (which will be a day after Bungie's expected Sunday reveal).

French retail site Micromania (via VG247) have also let slip a release date (October 6, 2013) as well as some plot details. According VG247's translation, the general story goes as follows:
Everything changed with the arrival of Voyageur. It was originally a Golden Age that allowed our civilization to establish itself in the solar system. But it could not last. Something we put ashore broke. The survivors built a city in the Voyageur before returning explore our ancient worlds where only mortal enemies awaited them.
You are a Guardian, protector of last haven of life on Earth, armed with incredible powers. You must defend the city. Defeat our enemies. And look what we have lost. Be strong.

Destiny is confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PS3. No word on next gen platforms or PC.

Wow, that was kinda of a rush. At this stage I believe it's best to wait till Sunday to see what this game is all about. Whatever they're planning on revealing better be Gameplay footage. I'm in no mood for any "CG only" trailer BS.

Big props goes to Moreconsole for sharing all the news. I recommend you guys watching the video below  if you  want to know more about the sources.

Hideo Kojima set to reveal more Fox Engine content next month

If you’re itching to see more of Hideo Kojima’s sleek and sexy new game engine then you may want to look forward to his GDC keynote in March.
The lectured will probably just be focused on the tech behind the engine; but what’s not to say he wouldn't reveal a bit of Ground Zeroes, Phantome Pain, or possibly the highly anticipated Project Ogre? Oh, what’s that? Z.O.E 3? Don't count on it, pal.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus Limited to 30 FPS

Ryu Hayabusa will once again be slicing and dicing enemies in the palm of your hands. This we know. What we didn't know was how well it will run on the Vita this time.

A lot of fans were disappointed when they realized that Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus downsized its frame rate to 30 FPS. I personally didn't even know until I bought the game, and, yea, my feelings were mixed. So knowing that there will be a Sigma 2 Plus; I hoped that maybe Team Ninja would remedy this in their sequel. I reached out to Team Ninja to get some clarity, but sadly it didn't turn out to be what I hoped for.
Although Dead or Alive 5 + will be running at 60fps on the Vita, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus will be locked to 30fps due to various reasons.
So why the frames? I mentioned a lot why in my DMC review and how all action games (that demand precision) should always aim for the sweet 60 spot. It's sad cause I really love Ninja Gaiden 2. I wouldn't consider it  Itagaki's swan song to the series (damn that exploding turtle to hell!), but it was damn good and should be experienced, always, at 60. Damn it, Team Ninja, can't you tell I'm spoiled?!

Well, if you're not spoiled, and thinking of getting it, then I left a trailer below to gawk at.

War for Nosgoth could bring Legacy of Kain series back to its most pivotal point

Square-Enix, who acquired Eidos back in 2009, may soon be going to back to the Legacy of Kain series. Game Informer has recently discovered that  a new domain titled warfornosgoth.com has been acquired by none other than Square-Enix themselves  Those who are familiar with the game will know that Nosgoth is the world the Legacy of Kain/Blood Omen takes place in. But what exactly is the "War for Nosgoth?"

According to the Legacy of Kain wiki, the war for Nosogth took place many years before the Blood Omen series (before the pillars were raised) which involved vampires fighting off an ancient enemy race known as the Hydlian.
The Vampire-Hylden war (also known as the Ancient-Hylden war) was the name of the great war fought by the Ancient vampires and the Hylden, and the earliest known point of Nosgoth's history.
The Hylden were also the ones who gave the vampire race the blood curse essentially turning them into the mythical creatures we all know today.

With Square-Enix recently rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise it only makes sense to bring the Legacy of Kain/Blood Omen series back in the same fashion. Of course I'm not saying that this will be a reboot (heck, this could be some iPhone game for all we know) but if it is it'll be quite interesting if it did turn out to be that.

The series is well known for its rich so what better way to start than from the very beginning.

Mega Man Lego might become a thing

A user by the name of Alatariel has pitched an idea to LEGO to have an actual Mega Man Lego set made.
This project is based on the classic old school Nintendo® NES game MegaMan (RockMan in Japan). This game, made by Capcom, has great nostalgic value and deserves a tribute in LEGO®! The designs are based on my favorite of the series: MegaMan 2.
So far the sets shows Metal Man, Bubble Man, and Wood Man (personal favorite) stages as well some Legofied bosses.

The number is shy of reaching a 1000 so make sure to visit the page here and give it as much support as possible. It's quick, easy, and doesn't need to take any of your wallet paper.

Mega Man 2 Arrives on the 3DS eshop in Europe. Comes to NA on Feb. 7th

What many consider to be the best in series, Mega Man 2 has finally arrived on 3DS eshop in Europe. All the memorable stages, music tracks, and boss fights will now be with you wherever you (or at least wherever you take your 3DS). Thanks to save spots the game may finally give newcomers a reason to dip their feet in this brutally challenging (yet very rewarding) side scroller. NA players will have to wait a bit more (Feb 7) to get their hands on it.

Although I'm not a big fan of the old school Mega Man series (Legends all the way) I still respect this game a lot. No disrespect to the fans, but I often consider Mega Man 1 to be the prototype that led to the masterpiece that is Mega Man 2 and is possibly the reason why we have so many Mega Man fans today. It's polished level design and soundtrack is something I can never say no to. Pixel-by-pixel, bit-by-bit, this game has been made with a lot of love. The tough kind of love...like the one mothers give. Yea, Mega Man 2 is a tough mom.

Mega Man 2 retails for 4.49/€4.99  in the EU and will retail for $4.99 in the US.

Playstation 4 spotted on Play-Asia

One of the world's most leading import sites, Play-Asia, have listed a Japanese Playstation 4 on its upcoming catalogue list.

*Temporary Description

Lot's of rumours are flying about. Everyone wants to know when the next PlayStation console will come, what enhancements it has and how it interacts with the PlayStation Vita. However, everything is till kept under tight wraps. The only thing we know is that the graphical capabilities and the CPU will become even more powerful, and the console might have a brand new controller, although the existing sixaxis, dual controllers and the Move remain compatible.
Concrete information will be available once the official sources release them.

While its obvious all of this is based on the recent Sony announcement, it's still pretty interesting to see sites already like this already listing the PS4--as though it's already announced. It also raises the possibility that the system may be available sooner than we expected (a la Apple announcement). Excite level increasing...

Sony teases upcoming Playstation. Will be revealed on Feb 20th UPDATE: It's real!

Sony has revealed that they may be revealing a new Playstation and may also reveal a launch date. REVEALATION!

The conference is to take place on February 20th at NYC and while many are jumping on the assumptions that it's a Playstation 4 announcement (which it should be) I'm still having my doubts. People around the web are talking how this could be a PSVITA price cut or something incredibly cheesy such Playstation Move 2. Eww

Of course I don't think Sony would hype up something THAT shallow but I've been disappointed before. If this does, however, turn out be what it is then I believe Sony may have just  one-uped Xbox months before E3. Either way I'm hyped but at the same time cautiously optimistic. It's a weird feeling.

Update

The Wall Street Journal has just confirmed (via Kotaku) that Sony will indeed be revealing the Playstation 4 on February 20th. They've also mentioned that it will in fact be launching THIS year. While this may contradict with what Kaz Hirai said about the launch of the Playstation 4, I wouldn't be surprised if they all had a change of heart. OR it could also mean that both Playstation 4 and Xbox are coming out this year. Wow, okay, too much hype. Need breakfast.
